On some cars, a brake light flashes when the turn signals are on (integrated). Other cars have dedicated lights for turn signals that are not also used as brake lights. Cars with integrated turn signals need a brake light decoder to determine when the brakes are applied so that the third brake light will not flash when the turn signals are on. Cars with dedicated turn signals or no turn signals need no decoder.
